Ein Handy verlieren kann jeder, und genau deshalb ist diese Geschichte ein guter Übungstext: Der Wortschatz ist der, den man selbst braucht. Daniel ist neunzehn und arbeitet in einem kleinen Café. An einem Dienstag steigt er aus dem Bus, und die Tasche ist leer.
Beim Lesen lohnt sich der Blick auf die Telefonszene. Am Telefon spricht man in sehr kurzen Sätzen, und der Text zeigt genau diese Sätze. Achten Sie außerdem auf die unregelmäßigen Vergangenheitsformen: „got“, „left“, „rang“, „held“, „ran“. Diese fünf Formen kommen in Alltagstexten ständig vor und lohnen das Auswendiglernen.

Lies erst auf Englisch. Die Übersetzung steht darunter, ist aber zunächst verdeckt.
Daniel was nineteen. He worked in a small café on Green Street. Every morning he took the number nine bus. The bus was always full. Daniel always listened to music.
One Tuesday he got off at his bus stop. He walked to the café and opened the door. Then he put his hand in his pocket. His phone wasn't there.
The phone was old. The screen had a long crack in the corner. But all his photos were on it. His grandmother's number was on it too.
He looked in his bag. He looked in his jacket. He looked on the floor. The phone was gone. Daniel felt sick.
"What's wrong?" said Priya. She worked in the café too. "My phone," Daniel said. "I think I left it on the bus."
Priya gave him her own phone. "Call your number," she said. Daniel called. It rang four times. Then somebody answered.
Priya took Daniel's apron. "Go," she said. "I'm here." There were only two guests in the café. Daniel said thank you and ran out of the door.
"Hello?" said an old voice. "Hello," Daniel said. "That's my phone. I lost it on the bus." The man laughed. "I know. It sang in my pocket."
The man's name was Arthur. He was on the bus to the market. "I get off at the church," he said. "Can you come there?"
Daniel ran. The church was ten minutes away. Arthur stood at the bus stop with a walking stick. He held the phone in his other hand.
On the way back Daniel walked slowly. The sun was warm. He put the phone deep in his pocket. Then he put his hand on it again.
"Thank you very much," Daniel said. "Really." Arthur smiled. "It's nothing. My son lost his phone last year. Nobody called him back."
Daniel gave Arthur a card for ten free coffees. Arthur came to the café the next week. He came again on Friday. Now he sits at the window every Friday morning.
